Aid To Uzhhorod 6th Shipment Will Benefit Citizens of Uzhhorod.
In 1992, Corvallis officially established a sister city relationship with Uzhhorod, Ukraine, and since that time there have been numerous medical, governmental, student, and cultural exchanges. In addition, five shipments of medical supplies and equipment, totaling over 250,000 pounds, have been sent to Uzhhorod and have assisted in the establishment of 4 clinics, including a Mammography Center, two Family Medicine Clinics, and a Women’s Wellness Center.
A sixth shipment is now underway and a committee of volunteers has formed and begun gathering supplies. The items will be shipped with the assistance of Counterpart International, funded by USAID. The plan is to gather supplies until mid-January, and then begin the inventory, packing and crating process, with shipment in March 2011.
The recipients of this shipment, entitled ATU6 or Aid To Uzhhorod-6, will include a family practice training clinic in Uzhhorod and programs in The Project, including the Chaslivtsi Orphanage, New Family Center and Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities. Individuals are invited to contribute items for the shipment. Besides basic medical equipment, the following are in need:
•Shoes (all sizes, adult and children, new or gently used)
•Clothing (all sizes, adult and children, new or gently used)
•Socks (only new)
•Blankets (new or gently used)
•Tables (new or gently used)
•Chairs (new or gently used)
•Wheelchairs (regular and the kind used in sports competitions)
•Dishes (new or in good shape)
•Pots and pans for cooking (new or in good shape)
•Hygiene supplies- soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes (only new items)
•School supplies- pencils, crayons, scissors, colored pencils, centimeter rulers (only new items)
•Band aids (new)
We are not permitted to ship books or computers.
This is a wonderful opportunity to send bulkier and larger amounts of items to the citizens of our sister city. Please consider checking your closets and garages to see if you have items to donate. Beginning on Friday, August 13, you will be able to leave smaller items (clothing, hygiene and school supplies, dishes, pillows, blankets, shoes, etc.) in a box at Corvallis Family Medicine’s waiting room at 2400 NW Kings Blvd. in Corvallis, OR. For larger donations like wheelchairs or furniture, or if you need any donation picked up, please call or email Mark or Alice Rampton. (Contact info below.)
If you would like to make a financial donation which can be used to purchase school supplies, hygiene supplies, socks, dishes or any other items for the shipment, you can do so by sending a check made out to C-USCA and mail it to:
