Corvallis Sister Cities Association: Uzhhorod or Uzhgorod, Ukraine and Gondar, Ethiopia

The Maharimbas Are Going to Uzhhorod

Members of The Maharimbas

The Maharimbas, a Corvallis marimba ensemble, will travel to Uzhhorod this fall to celebrate City Days in our sister city. Their marimba sound, with its fusion of African, swing, reggae, pop, and country, may acquire a Ukrainian accent as a result of this adventure. In addition to playing at the official City Days celebration in Uzhhorod, The Maharimbas will engage students at local schools and youth centers, and with The TOUCH Project participants at the Chavlisti orphanage, the New Family program, and the rehabilitation center. They will leave a complete set of marimbas in Uzhhorod, and plan to continue working with students and colleagues via Internet on musical collaborations.

The nine-member group and C-USCA have been working together on fundraising to support this exchange. The final event was concert by The Maharimbas at Tyee Winery. You can see photos from this event.
