Uzhhorod Projects and Delegations

Projects

From its inception in 1989, members from the Corvallis Sister Cities Association-Uzhhorod (CSCA-U) have traveled many times to Uzhhorod, Ukraine, with a sister city mission “to encourage lifelong communications and to partner together for a better future.” The result of this mission statement has led to many projects over the years.

Reflections on Delegations

This an example of a past delegation visit to Corvallis:

The highlight of this year’s Sister Cities Week was the arrival of an official delegation from Uzhgorod. Members of the delegation included the recently elected Mayor of Uzhgorod, Victor Pogorelov; Stanislav Sokach, business manager of the professional choir Cantus; and Viktoria Roman, newspaper journalist. Kateryna Bizilya, past president of the Uzhgorod Sister City Association, accompanied the delegation as interpreter.

Kicking off the week’s festivities was a community reception to welcome the Uzhgorod Delegation to Corvallis on Sunday, March 16, at 7 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room of the Corvallis/Benton County Public Library. While visiting Corvallis, Mayor Pogorelov worked with CSCA on Uzhgorod water issues, public health issues, and methods to increase economic and tourism development. He visited the Corvallis City Council and met with various city officials in addition to speaking to two Rotary groups, visiting area schools, and touring Hewlett-Packard.

Stanislav Sokach worked with the CSCACultural Exchange committee in planning a proposed 2005 visit of the Cantus Choir to Corvallis. The Cantus Choir has toured extensively in Europe and China and hopes to launch its first U.S. tour in the spring of 2005.

Viktoria Roman covered the delegation’s trip and sister city relationship for the Uzhgorod newspaper. She visited the Gazette-Times and spent a substantial amount of time with reporter Teressa Hogue.
